Our Placements
One of the quality features of the Clinical Research program at Oxford College is our three-month placement at a clinical research facility. We are very lucky that the Toronto area is one of the largest research and academic hubs in the world; here we have world reference centres such as the UHN’s Princess Margaret Hospital and the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and many large teaching hospitals, research centres and pharmaceutical firms that conduct hundreds of studies and trials. We work with these institutions to develop opportunities for our students to get hands-on experience.
When you complete your in-class training at Oxford College, Dr. Herten-Greaven will work with our placement officer, Mrs. Chen, in an attempt to select a placement that is aligned with your career goals. Here you will be able to observe the clinical research team in action, and work with the different personnel involved: supervisors, coordinators, managers, physicians, clinical personnel, technologists, data entry personnel, data managers, analysts, etc.
During the first four weeks of clinical training, the student will have met with these team members and understood their roles, as well as familiarize themselves with the functions of the clinical research facility or department and their particular projects. In the following weeks, the student works on different assignments and tasks, including (if applicable) interacting with patients/subjects. To ensure maximum benefit from the placements, the program mandates that feedback be given by both the students and their supervisors, along with evaluations at the end of the placement.
