Hugs, tears and laughs were the order of the day as this year’s group of students in the Clinical Research Associate class met as a group for the last time in June.

Over 24 students were involved in this year’s CRA program, the largest number to attend at Oxford College. Most of the students will now begin several weeks of work placements over the summer, including at the Hospital for Sick Children and Prince Margaret Hospital.

“This is a very difficult time for me – we are like a family,” said Arezou Saeti, one of the CRA students.

Other students are now looking forward to the next stage of their education. Megan Smith is hoping that she will be placed in area of research centred around genetics. She says she’s “ready to get my professional life started and this is the first step.”

Lindsay Butt, Placement Officer at the Career Resource Centre, says that seven of the students will begin their placements immediately after classes end, while the others will start in various research projects throughout the summer. Lindsay adds, “They will be working in hospitals with researchers and doctors. They will be right in there doing research along with other the employees.”

Dr Nicholas Herten-Greaven says that for this fall, 24 students have been accepted into program, with more interviews being done. As for this year’s students, he says they are a “very bright group, hard working and Ill expect they will have a great future.”

He also adds that “Oxford students have a reputation that proceeds them and they are now actively being sought for placements in the industry.”
